The Daily Mirror newspaper has printed claims that Argentinian special forces are preparing to seize one of the smaller islands that make up the Falkland Islands. To do so would spark the biggest international incident since the war 33 years ago.
The report claims that while British forces could protect the main islands from attack they would be ill-prepared to defend against an incursion on one of the numerous smaller islands that fall under British administration. Many of these islands are uninhabited and a powerful military response from Britain might sway world opinion towards Buenos Aries.
The British MoD is maintaining its line that adequate measures have been taken to protect the islands from any incursion.
